Literature Searching For Your Research Project (Medicine and Healthcare)  Online Q&A Drop-in Clinic Online

This 1 hour online question and answer session is designed to follow on from two linked video resources entitled Literature Searching For Your Research Project (Medicine & Health) session 1 and Literature Searching For Your Research Project (Medicine & Health) session 2 

 

These video resources introduce you to some of the key tools and techniques to help you carry out comprehensive literature searches. The video resources can be watched at any time before the session and will remain available, so you can re-visit them and learn at your own pace. 

If you watch the video resources and want to ask any follow-up questions, please book a place on this drop-in clinic, which will be heavily led by participant questions. 

By the end of video 1, you will be able to: 

  • Identify the purpose of your search​ 

  • Turn your research question into a database search using concepts and keywords ​ 

  • Use advanced search techniques​ 

  • Identify key information sources for your literature search and differentiate between information sources ​ 

  • Save a search and set up an alert ​ 

  • Find full text of articles  

 

 

By the end of video 2, you will be able to: 

 

  • Highlight the potential biases in scholarly information and use strategies to mitigate   issues of bias 

  • Understand what grey literature is and how to search for it​ 

  • Apply text mining techniques to find additional search terms​ 

  • Carry out citation searching to identify additional literature​ 

  • Evaluate and test your search strategy​ 

 

By the end of this drop-in clinic, you will: 

  • Have the chance to ask follow-on and more specific questions relating to the video resources 

  • Listen to the questions and answers of other participants 

  • Be part of more in-depth discussions
