An introduction to managing and sharing research data. The session introduces a data management plan template and explores data management good practice, benefits and potential problems. The session outlines important data management tasks and policies. You will learn about 'open' and 'FAIR' data and will be able to ask questions relevant to your own research. You will be sent a link to supporting material which you are encouraged to review before attending the workshop.

2. Write and update a research data management plan
3. Identify benefits of effective research data management
4. Identify the research data expectations of research funders and the University of Leeds
5. Plan data handling, organisation, documentation and sharing
6. Outline the data lifecycle
7. Recognise legal and ethical aspects of research data, including whether research data can be shared
8. Understand the role of data repositories in supporting open and FAIR data
9. Identify sources of information and support
All participants are encouraged to read the pre-course material and to write an initial data management plan after the session.
